MBMC Breaking News: Trump is reportedly considering appointing a lawyer as the new SEC Chairman.
Bloomberg quoted sources as reporting that partners Richard Farley of Kramer Levin Naftalis & Frankel and Norm Champ of Kirkland & Ellis, among others, are among the potential candidates to succeed Gary Gensler as chair of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
Besides, Robinhood Markets Inc.’s legal chief Dan Gallagher, incumbent SEC Commissioner Mark Uyeda and former Chair of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission Heath Tarbert are also under consideration.
It is learned that members of U.S. President-elect Trump’s transition team and other advisors have started holding talks with potential candidates since the conclusion of last week’s general election.
As discussions are still ongoing, it may take several weeks to confirm the final candidate, and the incoming SEC chair is expected to scale back regulatory oversight of the cryptocurrency industry.
Bitcoin once surged above $81,000 recently, hitting an all-time high.
